About ENGAS
Overview
Engas is member of the Kukburg family group, active in energy, spring water and agriculture. Individual projects are prepared and developed, and then implemented, preferably with a partner, especially in investment intensive areas.
The natural gas activities were started in the early 1990ies, when the group acquired Engas, got access to number of historic exploration data and assembled a group of some of the best Slovak geological experts. The site in Golianovo, originally prospected by number of drillings in the 1970ies, was licenced and operational in the year 2000, producing non-standard natural gas with CO2 content, then supplied to the groups heating plant in Nitra through a private pipeline, always focusing on the efficient conversion of the site into a gas storage facility (UGS).
The use of this gas on is no acceptable option anymore and the strategy shifted to the licensed permanent disposal of CO2 for gas cushion building in the UGS. Today, the site is converted into a CO2 storage (CCS), to support industrial companies of the region, especially those dependent on the use of fossil fuel, in managing their emissions in due respect of the requirements of the Green Deal.
