featuredCarbonNet Slovakia

We're excited to announce: CarbonNet Slovakia - open-access CO₂ transport & permanent storage backbone for Western Slovakia.

About us

Engas s.r.o. is a family owned company that has been active in natural gas projects in central/western Slovakia for more than 25 years. The Golianovo field is located in western Slovakia (Nitra region), 70km north-east of Bratislava, in the centre of Europe. Today, the site is being converted into a CO2 storage (CCS), to support industrial companies of the region, especially those dependent on the use of fossil fuel, in managing their emissions in due respect of the requirements of the Green Deal.

Our mission

Engas strives to enable the achievement of green deal targets and enhance our prospects for a sustainable future by facilitating the collection and injection of CO2 into suitable geological formations, thereby striving for partial CO2 neutrality in industries heavily reliant on fossil fuels.

EU & ETS certificates

The EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) increasingly emphasizes Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) as a vital tool for industries to meet stringent emissions caps. By integrating CCS, companies can remove CO2 directly from their emissions and store it underground, effectively reducing their carbon footprint. This technology is essential for sectors where emissions are harder to eliminate, allowing them to comply with EU ETS regulations while continuing operations, and is instrumental in achieving broader EU climate targets.

Regional strategy

Most of the largest Slovak CO2 emitters in the area are based at distance up to 100 km, such as the Slovnaft refinery (90km), the chemicals and fertilizers producer Duslo (30km), or the gas power plant Malženice (50km) from the field at the same pipeline. Even a connection to other more distant emitters could be achieved within a Central European solution.
